Stop Avoiding Me! (Karkat x Reader)

He was irritated; much more irritated than how he usually is. He laid on the couch in the living room trying to take his mind off of what was irritating him by watching his favourite rom-coms while hugging the pillow his moirail gave him. However, he couldn't keep himself focused on the movie in front of him. He looked out the window, seeing the dark grey clouds setting up outside. He sat up and let out a deep sigh. He ran a frustrated hand through his shaggy, ebony hair, making sure not to touch his nubby horns that sat on his head.

"I have to find her."

You sat down on the couch, staring at the TV, flicking through channels as your friends Rose, Jade, John and Dave sat around you, having a conversation that you weren't that interested in. You couldn't focus on what was happening around you, as your mind had been somewhere else the whole time. It wasn't until Dave snapped his fingers in your face that you snapped back to reality.

"Huh?" You looked at all of them.

"Yeah, she wasn't listening." Dave said. You sheepishly smiled.

"Sorry. What were you guys saying?"

"I was asking how long you're going to continue avoiding Karkat." John said, concern for his friend showing in his eyes. You looked away.

"I dunno." You replied softly.

"Oh come on (Y/n), you have to face the poor guy sometime." Dave said.

"Not to mention tell him you love h-- Oof!" You threw a pillow at him.

"No way! Do you have any idea how embarrassing that is?! Not to mention the fact that he had confessed first and I still haven't given him an answer!"

"I don't see the problem there." Rose said, her arms crossed together against her chest.

"Yeah me neither. Wasn't that the perfect chance to tell him you like him?" Jade said.

"W-well yeah but..."

"You should just tell him how you feel. Open up to him, (Y/n)." Rose said. You sighed.

"I know. I just... I choked. I couldn't do it. I mean, I don't want to ruin our friendship."

"But you wouldn't have. He told you he loves you. You just fucking choked. You probably just ruined your friendship with him just by avoiding him." Dave said. Jade glared at Dave, which he noticed right away.

"I'm just speaking the truth here!" He raised his hands in defence. You sighed.

"It's fine Jade." You lied. Truth is, you were hurt. You know Dave was telling the truth, and hell, you wouldn't blame Karkat if he did stopped being friends with you after all of that.

Feeling the tears coming on, you stand up.

"I'm going for a walk. I'll see you guys later."

"(Y/n), wait!" You heard Jade say but you were already out the door.

You had been walking through the busy streets, full of people and trolls alike. You breathed out a deep breath, looking around at the busy market area you had entered. Your thoughts were still focused on what Dave said. Maybe you did ruin your friendship with him. At the time when he confessed, you were frozen stiff but you were happy. Yet something in you stopped you right in your tracks. It was fear; Fear of going through the same pain that you had gone through many times before.

Getting hurt so many times gets tiring and just makes you feel worse about yourself, you know? Of course you do. You went through it.

You felt a light drop of water land on your cheek. Looking up, you noticed the sky had become a dark gray.

"Shit, I don't even have a hoodie on." You silently curse yourself for not bringing an umbrella either. You let out a sigh.

"Oh well. The rain does fit my mood." You muttered.

"(Y/N)!" You heard someone call from behind you.

Oh no. You knew that voice. You could pick him out in a huge crowd just from hearing it. You turned around and sure enough, standing behind a crowd of people, you could see his messy hair and nubby horns that rested fittingly on his head. He had his arm raised waving for you to notice him.

You turned around immediately and ran.

No not here, not now!

"(Y/N)! WAIT!" He called after you but you continued running through the crowded streets.

Eventually, you had ended up in an alleyway, out of breath and away from the crowd. You wanted to check if he was still following you but right as you were about to peak out of the corner, Karkat ran right in front of you, making you yelp. He was as out of breath as you were.

"(Y/n) what the fuck!" He said between each short breath he took. You didn't want to see him, not now.

You turned around to run again when you felt him grab your wrist, pulling you back and pushing you against the brick wall quite roughly. His other hand rested next to your head.

"DON'T YOU DARE FUCKING RUN AWAY AGAIN." Oh no, you just brought on a Vantas rant.

"WHY THE FUCK DO YOU KEEP RUNNING?! TONIGHT WAS MOVIE NIGHT AND WE NEVER MISS A MOVIE AND YOU FUCKING KNOW THAT. ALSO WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU OUT HERE?! IT'S RAINING, SMARTASS."

"Let me go, Vantas." You said making sure not to make eye contact with him, instead choosing to keep your eyes on the grey cancer symbol that was on his black sweater.

"FUCK NO. I WANT AN EXPLANATION FIRST."

He took a deep breath. You brace yourself.

"... Why are you avoiding me?" He said quietly. Your eyes widened and you looked up at to see a pained expression across Karkat's face.

"Why won't you talk to me? It's because of what I told you isn't it?" He looked away from you, almost as if he was ashamed.

"I keep fucking things up. I made things between us awkward and now you won't even talk to me." You couldn't take your eyes off of him. He looked at you, your (e/c) eyes meeting his. Silence fell between the two of you, almost as if time itself had paused. All you could hear were the droplets of rain that hit the ground.

He blamed himself. He was hurting because of you.

"Karkat..." You said, your voice barely audible.

"Stop avoiding me, (Y/n). I can't bear it anymore." He pleaded. Your could feel your heart break at his words.

He slowly let go of your wrist, causing you to look down at his hand that was slowly retreating away from yours.

"Kar—"

"I'm sorry (Y/n)." You could see the red tears in his eyes about to spill over.

Right then, you remembered the words that Rose had told you earlier.

"You should just tell him how you feel. Open up to him, (Y/n)."

You took a deep breath.

"...I'm afraid." Your voice was a mere whisper but it was loud enough for Karkat to stop and look at you

"I'm afraid of being hurt again, Karkat. I don't want to be hurt again. I want to be with you but I'm scared you'll leave me, just like everyone else. They all had a good reason to leave me."

You couldn't hold back your tears from slowly spilling down your cheeks as you continued listing reason why your previous relationships didn't work.

"Hey, fuckass." Karkat said. You didn't hear him and continued.

"You'll just leave me like everyone else did."

"(Y/n)."

"I'm not worthy of you Kar—"

He pressed his lips against yours. Your eyes widen but soon closed, allowing yourself to melt into the kiss. Karkat pulled away from you, allowing both of you a breath of the cool air.

"(Y/n)," Karkat said softly.

"Don't you ever fucking put yourself down that much again."

You blinked and felt your cheeks start to burn.

"REALLY? THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY?!" You yelled, making him jump back a bit.

"LET ME AT LEAST FINISH!" He yelled back at you.

"You don't need to feel like that anymore, idiot. You never needed to." Karkat pulled you into a tight embrace. Your eyes widened at the sudden gesture.

"Those nooklicking bulgefucking dumbfucks didn't know how lucky they were to have you." Karkat growled gently into your ear, your heart racing at the sensation.

"I promise I won't be like them (Y/n)." Your eyes watered at his words.

"Also," Karkat pulled away slightly to face you.

"It's about fucking time you admitted your feelings." He rolled his eyes. Feeling flustered, you hit his arm lightly.

"How did you know?" You asked him.

"Strider can't shut up for a fucking second." He smiled a little.

"Oh that little shit." You swore you'd kick the living shit out of Dave next time you see him.

"(Y/n)," You and Karkat stare into each other's eyes, unable to tear them away from one another.

"Will you be my matesprit already?" You smiled at his words, feeling a blush come across your face.

"Of course, Karkitty."

"Don't ruin the moment." He glared. You laughed.

"Let's get the hell out of this rain." Karkat laces his fingers with yours as he pulls you out of the alleyway, both of you running towards your home.

"(Y/N)," Karkat looked back, yelling through the pouring rain as you both ran

"I LOVE YOU." You could see the faint red in his cheeks before he turned away. You smiled brightly.

"I LOVE YOU TOO!"

"So in the end, everything worked out well." John smiled.

"Yeah, it did."

"Just goes to show that Rose knows best." Jade laughed.

"Hey, I was the one that gave Karkat the incentive to ask you out!" Dave said.

"Oh, about that." You glared at Dave, remembering how he told Karkat about your feelings.

"Why the threatening look?" Dave said.

"Oh I told her you told me." Karkat said, an evil, fang-filled smile crossing his face.

"Oh. Well then."

Dave turned and ran as fast as he could.

"STRIDERRRRRR!!!!" You yelled as you ran after the ever fleeting blonde.

"I DID YOU A FAVOUR!!" Dave yelled as he ran away from you.

"Are you going to stop her?" John said as he and Karkat watched you and Dave continue to play cat and mouse.

"Nah. He deserves it." Karkat said, his eyes only set on you.

"I guess so." John scratched the back of his head, laughing a little.
